COMBINED RANGES PLANNED

HOUSES BEING ERECTED IN INVERCARGILL In reply to a communication from the Invercargill City Council to Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P., drawing attention to the proposed reduction in electricity charges in the city and urging that the Housing Department might consider the installation of gas and electricity combined in the 22 houses to be built under the Government housing scheme in Invercargill, Mr Denham has received the following letter from the Parliamentary Undersecretary for Housing (Mr J. A. Lee): — “With reference to the letter addressed to you from the Invercargill City Council relative to the Government’s housing scheme at Invercargill, I am now pleased to inform you that it has been decided to install a combined cooking range, that is to say, part fuel and part gas. It is considered that this combination range will be suitable for the requirements of Invercargill.

“It is proposed to install gas cooking and heating in Invercargill owing to the relatively high cost of electricity”
