(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, September 16. The total amount of public debt outstanding at the end of the financial year ended March 31, 1937, was £215,232,294. This is shown in a report on the repayment of the public debt made by the Public Debt Commission and presented in the House of Representatives today. The amount of public debt repaid or redeemed during the last financial year under the terms of the Repayment of the Public Debt Act, 1925, was £1,691,188 and the aggregate of public debt that had been repaid or redeemed since the passing of the Act was £14,963,437. A sum of £1,624,507 was paid to the credit of the Public Debt Repayment Account from the ordinary revenue account of the Consolidated Fund and this sum, together with the balance at the beginning of the year, £106,387, was used in the discharge of the public debt.
