SPECIAL TOURS ARRANGED

MELBOURNE-BLUFF SERVICE SOUTHERN LAKES INCLUDED An attractively designed booklet issued by the Tourist Department setting out particulars of specimen tours available in conjunction with the Mel-bourne-Bluff service was the subject of appreciative comment at the meeting of the executive of the Southland Progress League last evening. The district manager of the Tourist Bureau at Invercargill, in a covering letter, said that the book had been issued by the department each year for the last three years, but the present issue was much more comprehensive than in previous years. There were tours available for round trip passengers providing for short trips to ■ the southern lakes and the joining of the boat at Dunedin. The department ran one of those excursions last year and its popularity was such that there was no doubt that the" inclusion of these tours would be appreciated. The manager drew attention to two tours which could be arranged during the period between the Maunganui’s arrival at Bluff and her " departure from Dunedin. In the first, a special three day tour by motor coach, passengers would travel from Bluff to Invercargill and thence to Lakes Manapouri and Te Anau via the Eglinton Valley on the first day. On the second day they would travel from Te Anau to Lumsden and thence to Queenstown, and on the third from Queenstown to Dunedin via Otago Central. The second special motor-coach tour would occupy two days between the Maunganui’s arrival at Bluff and departure from Dunedin. On the first day passengers would travel from Bluff to Invercargill and thence to Queenstown, and on the second day from Queenstown to Dunedin via Otago Central.

“Personally, I think we should acknowledge receipt of these books and pay a compliment to the department on its enterprise,” said Mr John Miller. The meeting carried a motion on the lines of the Mayor’s suggestion.
