The Cup candidates Catalogue (McDonald) and Cerne Abbas were the first to work, being sent over six furlongs. They ran the first three in 0.41 1-5 and the full distance in 1.21 4-5. Catalogue was holding his companion easily at the finish, and his effort was a really good one, as he carried fully a stone more than his cup weight. Cerne Abbas had the outside running, and her effort was satisfactory. Solo Song was going nicely at the end of half a mile, which took 0.54 2-5. This hack looks in nice' order. Royal Chief and Protector came home from the half-mile post in 0.53 4-5. They both worked well, the two-year-old being a shade in front, though Royal Chief could have done a good deal better. Ballymoney, Enge, and Mungatoon completed a mile in 1.52, the last six furlongs in 1.24 2-5, and the final four furlongs in 0.57 2-5. Enge, who handled the heavy going well, was half a dozen lengths in front. Maori Song and Lagoon got to the end of six furlongs in 1.21 2-5. They ran the first three furlongs in 0.40 2-5, and Maori Song was well clear at the end. Miss Brierly was in front of Kingcraft at the conclusion of three furlongs, which took 0.39 4-5. Both youngsters shaped well, but Kingcraft, who is a particularly long strider, was handicapped by the going. Fersen and Boomerang traversed seven furlongs in 1.36 3-5, the first halfmile taking 0.54. Fersen put plenty of dash into his task, and was in front at the end. Alyth reeled off five furlongs in 1.7 3-5. It was a good effort, and she went very freely. Golden Blonde just shaded Armacourt at the conclusion of a similar distance, which occupied 1.8. They had a bit in reserve at the finish.

The two-year-olds, Wynardo, Jean Quex and Native Song, were bunched at the end of three furlongs, run in 0.40 1-5. Native Song, who was on the outside, impressed most. In a similar task Phildale and Eastern Heir took 0.40 2-5, there being little between them at the finish. Silver Cloud trotted once round and ran down the straight at a good half pace.
