CARS COLLIDE (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, September 4. Motor-cars driven by the Hon. G. W. Forbes, M.P., and Mr R. Mclntyre, Public Works engineer-in-charge of the Ashley river protection scheme were involved in a collision near the Rangiora borough boundary at 5 p.m. yesterday. No one was injured, but. Mr Forbes’s car was considerably damaged. The other car escaped with slight damage.

FATAL OVERTURNING OF CAR

CHRISTCHURCH, September 5.

Samuel Gordon Holmes, married, aged 51, was killed yesterday afternoon when his car overturned on the Rakaia-Methven road at Mitcham. Holmes, who was alone in the car, left his home near Methven for Lyttelton at 1.30 p.m. Shortly before 3 p.m. a passing motor-cyclist found him dead behind the wheel of his car which was resting on its hood on top of a gorse fence. Marks on the road indicated that the car had skidded badly before it turned over. Holmes was president of the Methven Trotting Club and as an owner and breeder of race-horses met with considerable success.

WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN BATH '■ (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 5. When her husband and two children returned this morning from church service Mrs Winifred Jane Smith, aged 45, was found dead in the bath in her home at Heme Bay. Mrs Smith had apparently been drowned. It is thought she collapsed after entering the bath. Her husband, Mr Edward Smith is president of the New Zealand Pharmaceutical Society. The bath taps were turned off and the clothing Mrs Smith intended to wear was neatly folded on a stool.

MOTOR-CYCLE COLLIDES WITH CAR (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 5. A head-on collision between a motor-cycle and a motor-car on the Great South road at Wiri this morning resulted in the rider of the cycle receiving injuries from which he died shortly after. The victim was John Kimber, aged 18 years, a motor driver, of Auckland. The cycle was being ridden southward and came into collision with a car proceeding in the other direction which was driven by Philip Pile of Hamilton. The cycle and the rider were pinned under the front axle of the car.
