WOMEN’S DIVISION

WAIAU BRANCH The Waiau branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its seventh birthday party recently. A concert was arranged by Mr Howard Moody, of Invercargill. The programme was as follows: —Song, concert party; songs, Mr T. Granger; humorous sketch, Mr C. Paine; song, Mr P. Linton Hodge; humorous sketch, Mr E. Sopp; song, Babette Lister and ballet; song, Mr C. Trim; song and dance, Miss A. Caspar; song, Mr Ti Pryde; song and dance. Miss V. Brown; sketch, Miss V. Brown and Messrs E. Sopp and C. Paine; soldiers’ ballet, Babette Lister and ballet; song, Mr T. Granger; scene from “Rio Rita,” Miss V. Brown and Messrs Sopp and Paine; song, Mr T. Pryde; musical monologue, Mr Howard Moody; tap dance, Miss A. Caspar; scene from Rio Rita, Miss V. Brown and Messrs E. Sopp and C. Paine; duet, Messrs C. Trim and H. Moody; song Mr P. O’Brien, on behalf of the Women’s Division, thanked Mr Moody and his party for coming to Clifden. The candles on the birthday cake were lit by Mrs Hill, the senior member and extinguished by Miss Miln, the junior member. FAIRFAX The members of the Fairfax Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union entertained Mrs Joll at afternoon tea at the residence of the T\/Tv<r> Tz-JI bnc

president, Mrs Fleck. Mrs Joll has been a member of the branch for the past three years and is leaving to live in Hunterville. Mrs Fleck spoke of the regret the members felt at the departure of Mrs Joll who had been an active member of the branch during her residence in the district. She wished her health and prosperity in her new home. Mrs Mitchell also praised the work of Mrs Joll. During the afternoon Miss Isobel Mclntosh presented Mrs Joll with a small gift. Mrs Joll suitably replied. Competitions during the afternoon were won by Mesdames Joll, Gray, Fleck and Mclntosh. Those present were: Mesdames Joll, Fleck, Gray, Meek, Edie,' Mitchell, McKenzie, Mclntosh, Brownridge, Towns, Parker, Prentice, Gorrie, Campbell, Ward, Gaitt and Miss Mitchell. TAPANUI The monthly meeting of the Tapanui Women’s Division was presided over by Mrs Rutherford. The roll call was “Exchange of magazines.” Two competitions were held and resulted: Apple jelly, Mrs Webb 1, Mrs Powell 2, Mrs Robertson 3. Pinafore, Mrs Webb 1, Mrs Jacob 2, Mrs White 3. Miss F. McAuley gave a talk on her North Island tour showing a number of excellent snapshots. EDENDALE At the monthly meeting of the Edendale branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs F. Browne presided. There was a good attendance. The roll call, “Uses of Vinegar,” brought good responses. Mrs W. Geddes gave an interesting talk on gardening. The hostesses were Mesdames W. Cochrane, G. Clark, J. McDonald. K. McLean and F. McKenzie.

TUATAPERE The monthly meeting of the Tuaf tapere Branch of the Women’s Division i of the Farmers’ Union was held rei cently. The president expressed regret at. I the loss of two members. I Mrs Johnston, a member of a neight bouring branch, gave a travel talk.
