MASSED START RACE K. MUIR SUCCESSFUL The Invercargill Cycling Club held a massed start race for the first time on Saturday. Twenty-one competitors crossed the line together in a rolling start. . On the outward journey rhe heal wind met on the road to Dacre troubled the riders and the speed at times was only fourteen miles an hour. Frame crashed before Long Bush was reached and although he continued, he did not catch the bunch again. Pickford and Watt were both dropped about Woodlands and between there and Dacia Drury made several attempts to thm out the bunch, but was not very successful. Fourteen men were still together at the turn at Dacre and from there bacx to Invercargill, with a following wind, speeds from 30 to 40 miles an hour were attained. Not far from the turn foi home Patton and Aitken were shaken off and then A. Jones, Summers and France was each riding on his own. Drury and K. Jones clapped on the pace and between Roslyn Bush and Kennington were in the lead, but followed by Muir, Young and McDougall, with H. Jones and C. A. Robinson not far away. In the final sprint to the tape, Jones had only inches to spare from Drury. The results were as follows: — R. Muir (3.0) 1 R. McDougall (3.15) 2 Arnie Jones (4.0) 3 A. Drury (0.20) 4 K. Jones (scr) 5 The fastest time was made by K. Jones, whose time was 1.21.42 1-5. 50-MILE ROAD RACE AT WELLINGTON WELLINGTON, September 5. A 50-mile cycling road race to discover the Wellington provincial champion was held on Saturday and resulted in a win for J. Foote, who, off scratch, took 2.17, which was also the fastest time. I.
