Actors Of The Second Generation The motion-picture industry is now old enough to point with pride to the success being made by the second generation of families that originally made their names in the sphere of silent pictures. Among the young men bearing their father’s name who are now climbing the ladder of success are Tyrone Power, jun.; Noah Beery, jun.; Lon Chaney, jun.; Francis X. Bushman, jun.; Fred Kohler, jun.; as well as Douglas Fairbanks, jun., who is not only an actor, but is also a producer. Tyrone Power appeared in films with his father, but only in unimportant “bits.” It was not until after his father’s death that he came to the notice of producers for his work while understudying Burgess Meredith on the New York stage. Douglas Fairbanks has resigned from the Criterion producing company in England, and is now in Hollywood making “Prisoner of Zenda,” in which he is starred with Ronald Colman and Madeleine Carroll. Russell Gleason has become a contemporary of his parents, James and Lucille Gleason. Helen Broderick’s son James has been given tests by his mother’s studio, RKO Radio, to test his potential abilities. Daughters figure conspicuously in the list of screen successes. Constance Bennett and her sister Joan carry on the traditions set by their father, Richard Bennett Dolores Costello, formerly John Barrymore’s wife, and Helene Costello became known to the world apart from being the daughters of the famous Maurice Costello. Mary Rogers, daughter of the late Will Rogers, is under contract to Twentieth Century-Fox, but no film has yet been assigned to her. Katherine de Mille, adopted daughter of Cecil B. de Mille, is making a name for herself. latest role is with Loretta Young ana Don Ameche in “Love. Under Fire, which is nearing completion. Bonita Granville, now a famous child star as a result of her brilliant performance in “These Three, is the daughter of the late Bernard ( Bunny ) Granville, a well-known New York stage character. David O. Selznick has won more recognition for his productions than aid his father, the late Lewis Selznick, more than two decades ago. David Selznick made “A Garden of Allah.
