WEEKLY COMMUNITY SING

LEADERS IN PANTOMIME DRESS The song leaders (Messrs C. Trim, P. Linton Hodge and Howard Moody) appeared before the audience in colourful and elaborate pantomime dress at the weekly community sing in aid of the Plunket Society in the Civic Theatre last evening, Mr Trim opening the programme with an' appropriate song “Will o’ the Wisp.” It was explained that the innovation had been introduced because of the pantomime, “Jack Frost,” to be staged in the theatre tomorrow and on Friday by the Little Southlanders of The Southland Times. Master Ron. Stewart, one of the principals of the production, appeared on the stage and led the audience in the singing of “Daisy Bell.” The audience filled the theatre. . . Mr Howard Moody was the pianist and the Invercargill Civic Band, under the leadership of Mr A. R. Wills, was present. The usual cheerios were given out by Mr D. K. Torrance and the sing was broadcast by station 4ZP. The performers during the evening included Miss K. Derbie’s pupils in tap-dancing ballets, Mr T. Hunter, who gave a comet solo, and the Invercargill Returned Soldiers’ party in a burlesque, “Leave Train.” This number was particularly well received and the principals had the assistance of the Otautau Returned Soldiers’ Association quartette which appeared in sailors’ dress and sang several lusty choruses. The sketch was presented by the following cast: 0.C., Mr P. Linton Hodge; corporal, Mr H. Fraser; privates, Messrs W. Buchan, Cran, Tisbury, Williams, Stevens, Brewer, Cameron and Herricks; Otautau quartette, Messrs Ayson, Hogg, McCrostie and Coulter. During the evening Mr Moody played a request pianoforte solo, “Humor.esaue.”
