A desire to co-operate with the plans of the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) was expressed by the chairman (Mr C. H. Goodman) at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby League. “They have given us a 40-hour week and extra time for sport. I do not think it would be right to play very often on Sundays in these circumstances,” he said. Mr R. A. Drury, while agreeing with Mr Goodman in principle, said the Sunday matches catered for players who could not take part on Saturdays. Mr Goodman said it was necessary to avoid hurting people’s feelings in putting on Sunday games. It was decided I to restrict the number of Sunday games I and to play them only with good reason.
