Following is the special w^a^ r forecast for Southland, as issued “Y the Meteorological Office, Wellington: Moderate to strong east to ■ rfouth " easterly winds. Weather cool an “ changeable, with scattered rain,! more especially in the eastern and southern areas. Seas moderate to rather ijougn. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather still cloudy to ov<2 rcas t with mist or fog in many places. and * rain in most districts. Some falls probable especially in (the northern and north-eastern portion of the North Island with some flooding in those areas. Temperatures mild, but becoming rather cooler tomorrow in the south. i General Situation. —The anti-cyclortf has remained centred near the Chatham! Islands, while a depression covers the* greater part of the Tasman Sea, on<? centre of which is now located west of Cape Maria van Diemen. \ Winds.—Moderate to strong north- t easterly to easterly, reaching gale force ' in some exposed positions, more espe- V cially in the northern half of the North 1 Island; veering to south-easterly at places about and south of Cook Strait. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough to high north of East Cape and a considerable easterly swell south of East Cape. Moderate in coastal waters on the west coast but rather rough to rough off shore. Eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to strong north-east to easterly winds of gale force in the northern portion and veering to south- . easterlies in the southern portion. Seas rough. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and warm. The sun shone brightly throughout the day. At ope o’clock this morning there was a heavy mist.
