(14), 191 Pomona street (2 entries), Jeanette Moore M.A.C., M.M.S. (13), 57 St. Andrew street, Marion Stobo V.A.C. (14), 20 Wellington street, COMMENTS Though the poems were satisfactory this week, they were not quite up to your usual standard. Cousin Margery has a good sense of rhyme and rhythm, but the metre and length of the lines in the last

two verses differs slightly from that of the others. If you divide the lines into feet, you will see this yourself, Cousin Margery. The last two lines of your poem had to be changed, Cousin Elizabeth, as you had used wrong tense. This alteration has spoilt the rhythm of the verse. 380th COMPETITION Story for cousins 11 and under: “What Jack Frost Said.” . Prize of 1/6 to Cousin Mary Cameron (11), Glenfalloch Station, Nokomai. Prize of 1/- to Cousin Norman Barlow (7), 61 Eye street. Highly Commended and 2 marks to Cousins June Horton (11), Tussock Creek, Section 8, Glencoe R.D., Roger Pearce (8), Wakapatu, Elspeth Goldsmith (9), Dacre, Yvonne Hall A.C. (9), Aparima, Otautau, Imelda Kirkwood A.C. (11), South Hillend, Winton R.D. COMMENTS Judging was difficult this week, as all the stories were good. I was pleased to see so many entries from younger cousins, and I think that some of them will soon be among my best writers. Please do not abbreviate “and.” Write the whole word. If you are printing, use capitals for names, or at the beginning of sentences. I noticed a few capitals right in the middle of words. 381st COMPETITION Poem for Cousins 12 and over: “To a Worm.” Story for Cousins 11 and under: “The First Daffodil.” Entries close MONDAY, JULY 26.
