A big competition for farmers, and of a type unique in New Zealand is being presented by The New Zealand Farmer Weekly commencing today. Each week for the next six weeks there is published in The New Zealand Farmer Weekly the photographs of four good quality cows. The farmers are asked to place these cows in order of show merit, A, B, C and D, and give their reasons. The competition has no catch about it—it is simple and clear-cut, of fascinating interest to all farmers, and incidentally makes the farmer study the good points of a cow. The first prize is £5O or a saloon return fare to Sydney, with £2O for expenses, and there are 12 other prizes, totalling £lOO in all. Immediately following that competition, the same journal is commencing another, on exactly the same lines, for sheep, with another £lOO in prizes. Every entrant will receive two entry forms, one in the sheep competition and one in the cow competition (or two in the sheep or two in the cow competition, whichever they prefer). It is, therefore, possible for a man to be a prize-winner in both sections. There is no special entrance fee. Full particulars are contained in today’s issue of The New Zealand Farmer Weekly which also contains section 1 of the first competition.
