RESOLUTIONS PASSED AT CONFERENCE (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 17. A meeting of representatives of the district federation of the committee of the Women’s Institutes at present sitting at Wellington passed the following resolutions: — “That this conference of Women’s Institutes’ delegates from all over New Zealand thanks the Government for setting up an inquiry into the incidence of abortion.” “That in view of the recommendation in the McMillan Report the institute support and co-operate in any Government scheme for domestic help, especially for women in the country.” "That the economic aspect is of supreme importance in the matter of increased population and, therefore, motherhood endowment should be given early consideration by the Government.” “That birth control clinics be established where medical advice and guidance can be obtained by all.” “That we recommend legislation to govern and control the sale and advertisement of contraceptives and abortificiants and that the institute will cooperate with other organizations in spreading knowledge of the evils of abortion by means of education and propaganda.”

Two thousand bags of potatoes, each of approximately 1001 b, were loaded on the steamer Tairoa at Dunedin yesterday morning for transhipment to Montevideo by a local firm, marking the opening of a new market for Otago tubers. The bulk of the shipment is from Oamaru. —Press Association.
