OBAN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

To The Editor Sir,—l would be glad if you will permit me to make an appeal through the correspondence columns of your paper on behalf of the Oban Presbyterian Church. Lately an appeal was made to the various sporting bodies on behalf of the Stewart Island Yacht Club. This met with a very generous support and we now appeal to our friends. Our church here is a very small body and we find it very difficult to carry on under present conditions. This last year owing to the epidemic on the mainland the number of visitors to the island was small. This with the comparatively poor fishing season has made things harder than usual. There are a great many people in Otago and Southland who have spent very enjoyable holidays here and who may be inclined to help us in this appeal. We have to make a special effort each year to make ends meet. The greatest need we have is a suitable class-room for our Sabbath school which at present is held in a small cold building. We have a fund in hand but require more before we can build. Our island has been called the “Land of Forgotten People,” as we are rather away from the beaten track. We confidently appeal to our friends for assistance and will gratefully acknowledge any amounts forwarded. Letters can be addressed to any of the undersigned.—Yours, etc.
