Miss Molly Mcllwrick, Browns, was a visitor to Ermadale last week-end as the guest of Mrs Muir. Miss M. C. Mill, Woodlands, was the guest of her parents, the Rev. and Mrs J. C. Mill, Browns, for a few days recently. Mrs J. Costello, Ranfurly, leaves today for Dunedin on her return home from a visit to Invercargill. Johnston Wylie, Gore. On Monday evening Miss Patricia McCarthy, Duke street, was hostess at bridge in honour of Miss Marjorie Hutton, Russell street, who leaves shortly to live in Wellington. Her other guests were Misses Elizabeth Hoyles, Sylvia Snow, Mary Crawford, Frances Watts, Wynnis Armour, Gertrude Macdonald, Joyce Hinchey; Messrs H. E. Russell, H. Carswell, G. Macdonald, R. Stark, F. Holdgate, D. Howorth, A. K. Mac Ewan and W. Strang. Opportunity was taken during the service of the Thombury Presbyterian Church last Sunday to present Mrs A M. Fallow with a token of appreciation of her services as organist during the past ten years. The token was in the form of an illuminated address set in a painting of a typical New Zealand scene. In thanking the members Mrs Fallow said she had always had pleasure in playing the organ. She thanked the choir and Mr Mitchell for their support, and also Mrs Cameron, who has relieved her at times and who is now organist. An enjoyable,, evening was spent in the Te Tua school recently in honour of Mr and Mrs I. E. Terry, who were married recently. The evening was spent in euchre and dancing. The winners were Miss Gray, Mr G. Horrell and Miss G. Evans. Mr D. Dolan, chairman of the school committee, spoke of ‘he good work Mr Terry has done m the district, and called upon Mr G. F. Horrell to make the presentation of an electric toaster to Mr and Mrs Terry. Mr Terry replied. Messrs W. Harris, A. Elliott and Anderson also spoke. Music for the dance was supplied by Miss L. Knowler and Mr P. Knowler. Mr and Mrs E. B. Pilcher celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage yesterday when a family gathering was held at their residence in Spey street. Mr Pilcher was for many years manager of the Invercargill branch of the New Zealand Insurance Co. Ltd., and on his retirement from the’service of that company carried on his association with the Permanent Investment Association, of which he is managing director. The director and staff of the Permanent Investment Association marked their esteem of Mr Pilcher with a present of a smoking stand and cheque together with a piece of China for Mrs Pilcher. Mr and Mrs Pilcher in years past were active members of the Choral Society and other institutions and are widely known and highly respected as good citizens. The golden jubilee of their wedding was celebrated by a purely family party at which thirty-five sons, daughters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grand-chil-dren and great grand-children, were present or represented and a present of a chiming clock was made to the bride and bridegroom, while suitable toasts were honoured. Mr and Mrs Pilcher were the recipients of many congratulations and bouquets.

Bluff Notes Mrs T. McDonald, Burrows street, who has been spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs W. Arkle, Stafford street, Dunedin, returns home on Saturday. Mrs E. Benfell, Bann street, spent last week-end as the guest of her daughter, Mrs F. Lawton, Invercargill. Mrs F. Traill, Stewart Island, is the guest of Mrs James Hamilton, Foyle street. Miss Casey, Bann street, was hostess at bridge on Monday evening. The annual meeting of the Bluff branch of the Mothers’ Union was held in St. Matthew’s schoolroom last Thursday afternoon.
