Fat Sheep Of Poor Quality

VERY FEW PRIME BULLOCKS (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, June 16. Two hundred and ninety-three fat cattle were forward at the Burnside stock sale today compared with 503 for the double market two weeks ago. The quality generally was only fair and there was a small proportion of prime bullocks. Extra prime heavy bullocks made to £l6 2/6, prime £l2 5/- to £l3 10/-, medium £9 10/- to £ll 10/- and light and unfinished £8 to £9 5/-. Extra prime cows and heifers brought to £9 7/6, prime £6 15/- to £8 5/-, medium £4 10/- to £6 10/— and light and unfinished down to £3. Vealers were in short supply and met with a good sale. The fat sheep totalled 1478, the quality being below that of the previous sale. Extra prime heavy wethers made to £1 19/-, prime £1 11/6 to £1 15/-, medium £1 5/6 to £1 10/- and light down to £1 2/-. Extra prime heavy ewes made to £1 9/9, prime £1 4/- to £1 7/-, medium 19/- to £1 2/- and light down to 15/-. There were about 1840 fat lambs forward. Extra prime heavy sorts made to £1 13/-. Prime lambs were worth £1 6/- to £1 8/6, medium £1 3/- to £1 5/-, light £1 to £1 2/- and unfinished from 15/- to 18/6. There were over 160 fat pigs forward, baconers bringing £3l/- to £4 2/- and porkers £2 to £2 19/-. THE ADDINGTON MARKETS ENTRIES SMALLER THAN NORMAL (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June 16. Except in the fat sheep and fat lamb sections at today’s Addington market the entries were smaller than normal. The market generally was good. Store Sheep.—Only a sprinkling was forward. A pen of ewe lambs sold at 29/2, a pen of wethers at 25/- and sound and failing mouthed ewes at 22/10, which was on a par with the best recent values. Fat Lambs.—The export buying was left to one firm and for a larger, but more indifferently finished entry, values were scarcely up to export schedule. Fat Sheep.—About 7000 were penned, which included much good quality. Prime wethers maintained recent values but lighter sorts were easier. Good ewes showed an advance of one shilling and export sorts met with schedule rates. Best wethers made from 32/- to 36/-, special to 41/-, good wethers 29/- to 31/6, good medium weights 26/- to 28/6 and light down to 24/-. Best ewes made from 25/- to 29/6, special to 33/6, prime medium weight 22/6 to 25/- and light down to 16/6. ~ t Fat Cattle.—There was a small entry of 385 head and a recovery in value of up to 25/- for good steers and to 15/- for cows and inferior steer beef. Heavy prime steers made from £l2 to £l4 10/-, special to £l7 12/6, prime medium weight £lO 15/- to £ll 15/-, and light and ordinary £9 to £lO 10/-. Good heifers made from £7 to £8 10/-, special to £ll 12/6 and best cows from £6 10/- to £lO 12/6, medium £5 5/to £6 5/-. „. Fat Pigs.—Porkers were easier by 2/a head. Choppers were better by 5/to 10/- and baconers were also dearer. Porkers made from 25/6 to 47/6, average price a lb 6d to 6id; baconers 54/6 to £5 7/6, average price a lb 53d to 6.1 d and, in cases, to 61 d.
