Stewart Island YACHT CLUB

QUEEN CARNIVAL The first Queen Carnival to be held at Stewart Island proved a great success. Through the efforts of the club and its supporters, the club’s finances have been raised hy £250 with which the club intends to purchasa a first class 14ft yacht, suitable to compete at Sanders Cup races. The Red Princess, Miss Trena Dawson, has won the distinction of being the first successful princess and will be crowned Queen of the Island at a later date. The result of the voting was: Red Princess (Miss Dawson), 8400 votes; White Princess (Miss Braxton), 6409 votes; Blue Princess (Miss Topi), 4440 votes. The following were the winners of the raffles: —Supper cloths: Mrs A. Donaldson (Invercargill), Mrs Wills, Miss McGrath (Invercargill), and 101 Selwyn Street, Invercargill. Dressed dolls: Barrymore Hamilton, E. Aspinal. Poker work dish: D. M. Erickson. Poker work vase: M. Tolson.
