REVENUE FROM TRAMWAYS
FIGURES FOR MAY INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR An increase in the revenue from the municipal tramways for May 1937, m comparison with May 1936, was shown in the monthly returns prepared for last night’s meeting of the City Council by the city electrical engineer (Mr A. C. Carman). The revenue for May this year was £1763 18/2, against £1733 3/2 for the same month last year. Fewer passengers, however, were carried last month than in May last year, the figures being 217,123 for May 1937, and 228,990 for May 1936. Concession fares made 74 per cent, of the tramways revenue for May this year, the remaining 26 per cent, coming from cash fares. In May 1936 concession fares supplied 60 per cent of the revenue and cash fares 40 per cent. The revenue in May 1935 was £l6BO 11/11. The report supplied the following comparative figures for the total traffic revenue from April 1 to May 31: 1937, £3377 7-; 1936, £3267 7/5; 1935, £3220 1/1.
