THIRD COMMUNITY SING . 1300 PERSONS PRESENT It was evident from the enthusiasm of the 1300 persons who were present last evening at the Civic Theatre that the popularity of the community sings organized in aid of the Plunket Society has not diminished since they began a few weeks ago. A popular programme was presented and the audience joined in the singing with enthusiasm. The entertainment was broadcast by station 4ZP and during the evening several “cheerios” were given out. A feature of the evening was the presentation of several numbers, including exhibitions of tap-dancing by pupils of Miss Renee Ward. Solos by Messrs Charles Trim and P. Linton Hodge were applauded by the audience and Mr Alex Lindsay, Master Ewan Mac Ewan and Miss Babette Lister contributed solos. Three pictures, given by Mr F. Beck, were sold by auction during the evening. The programme contained many popular, songs of the day, but folk songs and old-time melodies were also heard. Messrs P. McNamara, Trim, Howard Moody, Hodge, A. Lindsay and C Walsh appeared in comic sketches and were responsible for much of the humour. The programme was as follows: — “God Defend New Zealand,” “Here We Are Again,” “Around the Comer, “Beautiful Lady In Blue,” “Isle of Capri”; sketch, “Dean of Oxford ; cheerios and limericks; tap dance, Miss Renee Ward’s pupils; “Whistling Waltz, “Flying Trapeze,” “Rose Marie (Charles Trim as Nelson Eddy), “Treasure Island,” “Today I Feel So Happy”; sketch; presentation of cup (Mr Howard Moody); “Little Angeline,” Babette Lister and pupils of Miss Renee Ward; “Little Angelme, “San Marino,” “Did Your Mother Come From Ireland?”; solo, Mr Thorley (London); “Carry Me Back to Old Virginy,” “Clemantine,” “My Bonnie Is Over the Ocean”; cheerios and limericks; Yip I Addy I Ay,” “Two Little Girls m Blue”; sketch, “Appendicitis” (Mr P. McNamara); solo, Master Ewan MacEwan; “Abide With Me,” “Peggy O’Neil,” “Just An Echo,” “Old Father Thames,” “Sing As We Go”; violin solo Mr Alex Lindsay; “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” “Gentlemen, the King! , “Old Spinning Wheel,” “When the Moon Comes Over the Mountain, “Blaze Away.” The finale, a very spectacular number by the pupils of Miss Renee Ward entitled “Dawn of Love,” was very effective and won the approval of the audience. In it appeared Messrs Hodge and Trim, the latter as Cupid. The accompanist for the evening was Mr Howard Moody. _______
