STABBING AFFRAY ON OLIVEBANK

ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, May 24. In the Magistrate’s Court today before Mr H. W. Bundle S.M., Jamsherallee ,the donkeyman of the motorvessel Olivebank was charged with having wounded the engineroom serang, Jabidallee, with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The charge arose out of a stabbing affray which occurred on the Olivebank at Ravensbourne on April 9. Accused, who entered a plea of not guilty at the original hearing, admitted when he came before the court again that he had stabbed Jabidallee and, in the circumstances, the Magistrate, before committing accused to the Supreme Court, remanded him for a further week to allow him to consider his plea. When the hearing was resumed today Mr J. G. Warrington, who appeared for Jamsherallee, said he had discussed the position with his client who now desired to plead guilty. After evidence had been tendered by accused, who said that the dispute arose over money which he had given complainant to keep for him and which complainant consistently refused to return, he alleged that when he insisted on the repayment of the money complainant lifted a stick to strike him, whereupon accused, guarding his head with his right hand, drew his knife with his left hand and stabbed him. The magistrate committed accused for sentence.
