ROLL OF HONOUR UNVEILED

CEREMONY AT BALFOUR * Coronation Day was celebrated in Balfour by the unveiling of the memorial roll of honour which was presented to the school by the ExPupils’ Association. The Balfour Pipe Band played selections at the school and at 10.30 the head master, Mr W. Cassels, assembled the children outside the school where the flag was saluted. The. chairman of the Ex-Pupils' Association (Mi J. Cowie) welcomed all the ex-pupils and visitors, especially Mr W. D. Shelton and Mr Gerken, representing the Gore Returned Soldiers’ Association. The chairman mentioned that the unveiling ceremony on Coronation Day answered a twofold purpose. He then introduced Mr W. D. Shelton, who spoke on behalf of the Gore Returned Soldiers’ Association. Mr Shelton then called on Mrs D. McLean a pioneer settler of the district, to unveil the roll of honour Mr Gerken, secretary of the Gore Returned Soldiers’ Association, also spoke; and said that he thought it very fitting that the roll of honour should be unveiled on such a momentous occasion.

The National Anthem was then sung by all present Further selections were played by the band during the proceedings. Mr James Cowie thanked one and all for attending, especially Messrs Shelton and Gerken. MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB , The weekly shoot of the Gorge Road Miniature Rifle Club was held in the Coronation hall, members shooting for the first time under the automatic handicap of ten. Mr L. P. Beck won for the week the President’s Cup with 78 off the rifle.
