NEW ZEALAND CONSERVING RESOURCES CANBERRA, April 24. The Secretary to the Department of Commerce (Mr H. M. Murphy) said that further negotiations between the Commonwealth Government and New Zealand for the purchase of New Zealand white pine for the manufacture of butter boxes had ended in a manner highly disappointing to the Commonwealth. Because of the determination of New Zealand to conserve her supplies of white pine it was becoming evident that Australian butter exporters must rely increasingly, if not wholly, upon, the timber resources of the Commonwealth for the maintenance of her future export trade.
