MOTOR TRANSPORT OPERATORS
NO DESIRE TO SELL BUSINESSES (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 23. The statement of the Government policy on road and rail competition in goods services announced by the Minister of Transport (the Hon. R. Semple) was considered today by the largest and most representative conference of motor transport operators ever held in New Zealand. The meeting passed a unanimous resolution to the effect that those operators affected did not desire to discontinue or sell their businesses to the Railways Department, believing the public interest to be best served by the continued operation of these services by private enterprise. The council of the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance was fully empowered to take any steps deemed advisable in an endeavour to have the Government reconsider its policy as announced.
