LODGE MEETING

ANCIENT ORDER OF FORESTERS The new officers of Court Star of the South filled the various chairs at the last regular meeting, C.R. Bro. J. Holland presiding. An invitation was received from Court Roxburgh to pay an official visit on May 29 to meet other Courts and attend a dance to follow. Consideration was postponed till next meeting, night. Official visits were received from Courts Queen of the South and Southern. I.P.D.C.R. Bro. Eastlake also paid an official visit. Four new members were initiated into the order. S.C.R. Bro. Burns directed the “fire” for the new members an dalso welcomed the visiting Courts and gave the toast. C.R. Sister Rose responded on behalf of Court Queen of the South and P.CJI. Bro. Bridges on behalf of Court Southern. P.C.R. Bro. Horan welcomed I.P.D. C.R. Bro. Eastlake. Bro. Eastlake, in his reply, stated that while D.C.R. ho had endeavoured to do his best for the order and now that his term in the high office was over he would still strive to further the interests of all courts. P.C.R. Bro. Horan, who was one of the judges for the P.D.C.R. Bro. Patton Memorial Shield for efficiency, gave a criticism of the methods of working the courts and advice on how improvement could be made. After the meeting members and friends adjourned to the hall, where I.P.D.C.R. Bro. Eastlake was called on by the C.R. to present the Macfee Memorial Scholarship prize to James H. Cockerell. In making the presentation Bro. Eastlake stated: “This scholarship was founded for the children of Foresters to commemorate the work of the late P.D.C.R. Bro. Macfee, who was an ardent worker for the order and a man of great benevolence, thus exemplifying the purposes for which the pioneers of the order founded it: brotherly love and benevolence.” Bro. Cockerell, in replying on behalf of his son, said that this was his second son to win the prize. P.D.C.R. Bro. Eastlake presented P.C.R. Bro. Palmer with his sash and certificate. Bro. Palmer had spent two sessions as C.R. and had done so under a great handicap, it was stated. P.C.R. Bro. Palmer, in his reply, thanked the brethren for their presentation, especially those who had so ably assisted him and said that now his term in office was over he did not intend to drop his interest in the order.
