COUSIN BETTY’S LETTER

My dear Cousins, How happy and gay you were this week. Your letters tell me that Mr Sun has been shining over the whole of Southland, and I know that he has brought smiles to the faces of my Cousins. Have you noticed what happens when you smile cheerfully? You make others smile too. Just think how wonderful it would be if we could make our happiness stretch right round the world. While your smiles are encompassing the globe, your letters will be on their way, too, for I am sure that many of my Little Southlanders will write to the children whose names are in the Correspondence Corner this week. All those people would like penfriends in New Zealand, and I know they would like to hear all about our province of Southland. Penelope Pen can imagine all her relations covering sheets and sheets of paper with the contents of Isobel Ink-pot’s cousins. What a busy time you will have this week-end, writing letters and competitions, and doing all your homework. This week we have a new town clan. The members are donning their extra-special Thinking Caps, for they want to find a new and original name for their clan. I wonder what it will be? Did you remember to think very hard last Saturday morning? For our Coronation Page I want you to write an account of what you would do if you were Home for the Coronation. That does not mean that you are to describe the Coronation itself, or the Procession, but I want you to -write about what you yourself would do if you were one of those fortunate ones at Home for the Coronation. Art Club members please note: put your name, age, and address (in pencil if you wish) on the back of your entry. Loose pieces of paper are sometimes lost or mislaid. Will you remember that when you are sending the next drawing or painting? Another of my cousins has earned fifty marks this year. Congratulations to Cousin Pat Henderson. • How are the Clan Books progressing, my secretaries?

Your loving
