Twice Across Andes Extract "N.Z” Truth, 24/2/37. THE Grand Primo International of South America has the distinction of being the only race of its kind in the world. The test covers 7000 kilometres of hard, rough going, twice across the great Andes Ranges, with its narrow mountain passages, dangerous ravines, steep pulls and sharp descents. In the last event 113 cars competed, including several costly European, English and American makes. Some were passenger cars, others stock cars with slight alterations. Still others were stripped racing chassis, with favourable gear ratios and liighpowered motors. Only 26 competitors finished the test. A 1936 stock model Terraplane rolled home first, two hours ahead of the second car, completing the test in 89 hours, 37 minutes, 20 4-5 seconds, at an average speed of approximately 50 miles an hour.
