CRITICISM OF MARAMA

VESSEL CONSIDERED TOO OLD THE BLUFF—-MELBOURNE SERVICE That the success of the Bluff-Mel-bourne passenger shipping service depended on bringing people to the South Island by an up-to-date vessel was the opinion expressed by Mr H. L. Longbottom at a meeting of the executive council of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday night. Mr Longbottom, who has just returned from a visit to Australia, said the ship used at present was not calculated to encourage passengers, who were well provided for in an excellent service round the coast. The attractions in the South Island were all that could be desired, but visitors would not travel by such an old ship as the Marama. A modern vessel was urgently required. Similar views were expressed by Mr W. D. G. Hartley. Both members were thanked for their comments.
