FATHER DIVINE RENOUNCED
“ANGEL NUMBER ONE” RECANTS LEADER OF NEGRO CULT STILL AT LARGE (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received April 22, 7.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 21. Father Divine, the leader of a negro cult for whom the police are searching, has not yet been found, but his troubles have multiplied. “Faithful Mary,” his “Angel Number One,” in whose name the principal properties are being held, has renounced her allegiance thus: “He is not God; just a damned man!” She says that he insisted that she should give him a deed over numerous tenements in Harlem and other large farms where members of the cult were housed. She refused. It is now revealed that the server who summoned Father Divine to appear at the action in which- a negress is charging him with defrauding her of 2700 dollars was uninjured, but his friend, whd accompanied him to see the fun, was stabbed, and his condition is still serious.
