DUNEDIN RATEPAYERS

PROPOSAL TO RAISE LOAN REJECTED (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 22. By an overwhelming majority of 6970 votes to 2996 the ratepayers of Dunedin today rejected the proposal to raise a loan of £2,100,000 for reading purposes. Approximately half the number of persons on the roll recorded their votes, a total of 10,073 voting out of a roll number of 20,817. During the past fortnight the Mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cox) and Labour councillors have conducted a vigorous platform campaign on behalf of the proposal.
