WEDNESDAY (Before Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M.) William Francis Joseph Walsh (Mr J. C. Prain) pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to give way to traffic approaching on his right. Cyril Neville Fairweather said that defendant’s car cut across in front of his car when witness was crossing the intersection at Tweed and Clyde streets. Witness said he was first on the intersection. He swerved his car and in doing so there was a minor collision with defendant’s car. Mr Prain said defendant saw the other car, and realizing there was no possibility of a collision, proceeded on his way. Defendant’s car had crossed the middle of Tweed street when the collision occurred. Counsel submitted that there was no case to answer. The case was dismissed. William George Brearley Smith, for passing a vehicle at an intersection while travelling at more than six miles an hour, was fined £l, costs 10/-. James Alexander Anderson of Tokanui, for failing to report an accident involving injury to a person, was convicted and ordered to pay costs 10/-. For negligently driving a motor-vehicle on the Riverton-Invercargill main highway he was fined £l, costs 18/-, and witnesses’ expenses 8/-. For failing to give way to traffic approaching on his right, Robert John Fraser was fined £l, costs 21/-, and Alexander Sievwright was fined £l, costs 18/-. Albert Smith, for driving a motor lorry across the railway level crossing at West Plains when the line was not clear, was fined £l, costs 12/-. For operating an unlicensed wireless receiving set, James Henry McColgan was fined 10/-, costs 12/-. James Murphy pleaded guilty to being drunk in a railway carriage, and was fined 10/-, costs 10/-.

For parking a motor-vehicle too far from the kerb of the street, Roy Anderson was fined 10/-, costs 12/-. Allan Brown and Frank Goodrich each were fined 5/-, costs 10/-, for cycling at night without lights on their cycles. Ronald Jackson, for cycling on a footpath, was fined 5/-, costs 10/-.
