CONTROL OF SPANISH FRONTIERS.—The international patrol of Spain’s borders, on land and sea, began at midnight on Monday, and it is hoped that the agreement on non-intervention will be rigidly observed. The picture above gives an indication of the extent of German intervention on the rebel side during the months when the neutrality agreement should have been honoured. These troops, in uniform and wearing army boots of the German type, are on parade at Salamanca while their leader, General Wilhelm Faupel, presents his credentials as German Ambassador to General Franco. On the right is Captain Malcolm Macdonald, and on the left is Colonel C. D. O. Lunn, the English and Danish nominees respectively in charge of the French and Portuguese frontiers of Spain.
