CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS CONCLUDED Tlie remaining championship events conducted by the Southland Swimming Centre were held in the Tepid Baths last night The championships this year were held in sections because of the infantile paralysis epidemic, and although this was not as satisfactory as one big carnival it has served the purpose of finding the provincial champions for 1937. An attempt made last night on the 110 yards provincial backstroke record by D. C. Berry proved successful, the record being broken by 0.3 1-5. The previous best time of 0.84 3-5 was established by A. Brown. Berry’s time was 0.81 2-5 _ The championship events resulted as follows:— 50 Yards Senior, Men.—D. Davis 1, F. W. Springford 2, A. V. Osmond 3. Won by three feet. Time, 0.26 1-5. 50 Yards Intermediate, Girls.—J. McDonald 1, M. Kennedy 2. Won by 12ft. Time, 0.34 4-5. 50 Yards Intermediate, Boys.—K. Shaw 1, J. Couling 2, R. Duthie 3. Won by 6ft. Time, 0.26 2-5. 50 Yards Juniors, Boys.—L. Blakie 1, W. Clouston 2, B. Challis 3. Won by 3ft. Time, 0.31 2-5.
