GENERAL NOTES The Union Steam Ship Company has received advice that the Rangitlki arrived at London on the afternoon of April 19. Advice has been received that the Port Chalmers left London last Friday for Wellington where she is due on May 20, sailing afterwards for Lyttelton, Timaru and Bluff. The motor-vessel Tamatea sails at 10.15 a.m. today on her weekly run to Stewart Island and returns to Bluff this afternoon. Finishing her Southland loading on Monday night the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Ruahine sailed yesterday morning for Port Chalmers.

The Canterbury Shipping Company's coastal steamer Storm reached Bluff from Wellington at midnight on Monday. After discharging motor-cars and general cargo she loaded for the north and was due to complete and sail last night for Timaru. The cutter Scout arrived with cased fish from Stewart Island at 6.15 am. yesterday. The motor-vessel Ranui sailed at 4.35 p m. yesterday with passengers and general cargo for Stewart Island To complete loading for London, via Cape Horn and Las Palmas, the Port Brisbane is due at Dunedin on May 3 from northern ports. She is to sail finally on May 6. Keith Ramsay, Ltd., advises that the steamer James Cook is due at Dunedin tomorrow from Newcastle, via Wellington. She is to sail the following day for Lyttelton and Greymouth. The Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Raranga sailed early on Saturday morning for Lyttelton and Wellington to complete loading tor London and west coast ports of the United Kingdom. H. L. Tapley and Co., advise that the steamer Trelyon left Liverpool, Nova Scotia, on April 13 with a cargo of newsp jit for discharge at Auckland, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland on May 23 and at Dunedin about June 5. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Hororata’s loading itinerary has been altered and she has gone to Wellington before coming to Port Chalmers. She is now expected at Port Chalmers on Saturday to continue loading for Home ports, and is to sail on April 29 for Timaru to complete. SIX MOTOR-SHIPS It was reported in Melbourne recently that six new motor-ships had been ordered from British ship-building yards by the Montreal, New Zealand, and Australian Line Ltd., for their service between North American and Australasian ports. It is expected that the Ellerman and Buckland Line, the Port Line, and the New Zealand Shipping Company, which took over the Canadian National Steam Ship Line in 1936, and combined to form the new line, will each build two of the new vessels. The new vessels will be motor cargo liners of about 10,000 tons,, and they will be specially fitted for the carriage of dried fruit, the export of which to Canada has increased enormously during the past two years. It is expected that three of the vessels will be launched in July and August.
