New life had been breathed into the Public Works Department, said the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple), when speaking at a civic reception at Taumarunui. Wheelbarrows and shovels had given way to mechanized methods, and already there was a saving in costs of 33 1-3 per cent. The Minister said he was spending £10,090,000 this year and would ask for more next year.
