B CLASS RADIO STATIONS

Prices Offered By

Government

FAIR LEVEL CLAIMED (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 19. The opinion that the prices offered by the Government for the purchase of B Class stations was fair was 'expressed by the acting Minister of Broadcasting (the Hon. F. Jones), when questioned about the local station’s dissatisfaction. He thought that a fair proportion of the stations would sell at the prices offered but it was possible that some might not. When the position had been cleared up to that extent the Government would decide what was to be done in regard to the remaining stations. Consideration would be given to the question of subsidizing but no action would be taken either to close down any or to take over any arbitrarily. As to the statement of Mr A. F. Moncur, M.P. for Rotorua, that the Rev. C. G. Scrimgrour, Director of Commercial Broadcasting, had been placed on a fixed salary, Mr Jones stated that he would make an announcement on this subject shortly after his return to Wellington.
