FINAL RUN FOR SEASON

MARAMA ARRIVES AT BLUFF MILFORD SEEN AT ITS BEST Making its final run for the season, the Union Company’s trans-Tasman steamer Marama arrived at Bluff early yesterday morning from Melbourne. She carried about 180 passengers. The vessel lay in the roadstead until Customs and health officials boarded her shortly after eight o’clock. She berthed at the ferry wharf about 9.30. The Marama had a good trip across the Tasman, and, appropriately enough, the passengers on the ship’s final run for the season saw Milford Sound at its best. Hie vessel called there about nine o’clock on Sunday morning and those on board saw the beauties of mountain, bush and waterfall bathed in warm sunlight. “It was the finest sight I’ve seen anywhere in the world,” said a passenger who was returning to New Zealand after a five months’ tour of America, England and the Continent. Another passenger, the manager of an Australian broadcasting station, said it was his intention to give an address on the attractions of the sound when he returned to Australia.

Regret was expressed by several tourists that the Marama was not to continue its run during the winter. The service in the ship was also warmly praised. The Marama was to leave at eight o’clock last evening for Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington, where she will be laid up for the winter. The following passengers left the ship at Bluff: Mrs D.
