SOHO WINS CHIEF EVENT (United Press Association) NAPIER, March 7. Glorious weather conditions prevailed for the second day’s racing at Napier Park. There was a large attendance and the track was in excellent order. The totalizator handled £BB6B 10/-, an increase of £3593 10/-. on the second day last year, and an increase of £5165 10/- for the meeting. Results were:— OMAHU HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP, £lOO. One mile and a-quarter. 5 Curie 10.13 (Burgess) 1 4 Lord Hereford 9.5 2 2 Tareha 9.0 3 Also started.—l Royal Routine 10.5, 3 Lady Wessex 9.5. Royal Routine headed the field past the stand the first time round with Curie last. Round the back Lady Wessex moved up and, at the bend, Tareha was handily placed. Tareha led into the straight with Curie still last, but a furlong from home Curie came through to win easily by two lengths from Lord Hereford. Lady Wessex followed and then came Tareha. The field was well strung out at the start Asset leading from King’s Hope, Nereus and Allmetic. Entering the straight Asset ran off the track leaving King’s Hope in front, but the favourite came with a strong challenge to win by two lengths from King’s Hope, who was half a length clear of Allmetic. Six furlongs. 5 Blygain 8.13 1 4 Hunter’s Mom 8.12 2 3 Tycoon 9.8 3 Also started.—2 Quake 8.12, 1 Gironde 8.3, 6 Recitation 7.7, 6 Hunting Spec 7.9, 9 Mohua 7.11, 8 Royal Solo 7.7. Hunter’s Mom got away to a bad start but soon took the lead, heading the field to the straight, where the field was well bunched, and a good finish saw Blygain salute the judge a length to the good of Hunter’s Mom, who was a length and a-half in front of Tycoon. Gironde was fourth. Time, Imin 13 2-ssec. GREENMEADOWS HANDICAP, £l5O. One mile and a distance. 3 Soho 8.10 (Marsh) 1 1 Gay Hunter 9.5 2 2 King’s Lancer 9.6 3 Also started. T-4 Hamarin 7.9, 5 Black Fox 7.7, 6 Maahanui 7.7. The tapes lifted to a ragged start from which Maahanui led to the front followed by Black Fox. These two led

Money Raid was first out from a poor start, followed by Screen Star and Son and Heir. This was the order right to the last few yards where, in a great finish, Screen Star got home by a neck, a head separating the next two. Tulamore was fourth. Time, Imin 2sec. ST. PATRICK’S HANDICAP, £l3O. Seven furlongs. 2 Sansfoy 7.13 (Forsyth) 1 1 Passion Flower 9.0 2 5 Wasteland 7.7 3 Also started.—3 Pennycomequick 8.9, 4 Lavinia 8.7. Wasteland led all the way to the straight where Sansfoy and _ Passion Flower fought out the finish, the former winning easily. Lavinia was fourth. Time, Imin 27sec. WHARERANGI HACK HANDICAP, £lOO. Seven furlongs. 1 Lucullus Lad 9.0 (Marsh) 1 2 Blygain 8.10 2 4 Tractile 8.0 3 Also started.—3 Trailer 7.11, 6 Helios 7.7, 5 Parry 7.7. Helios and Lucullus Lad were the first out and held the lead into the straight where Lucullus Lad went on to win easily by two lengths, half a length between second and third. Parry was fourth.
