PRIVATE QUARTERS OF CABARET
SEQUEL TO RAID BY THE POLICE (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 5. A raid on the private quarters and a sitting-room attached to the Rio Grand Cabaret, at Titahi Bay, were described' in a crowded Magistrate’s Court today, when a number of men and women faced charges for offences under the Licensing Act. Several defendants also faced charges involving the unlicensed sale of liquor at Porirua and Titahi Bay on various dates. A police officer gave evidence that he entered the private quarters of the cabaret on January 23. The cabaret was full at the time. It held about 300 people. In the sitting room there were three women and about 20 men. Quantities of liquor were seized there and a number oi those in the room were drinking. The sitting-room was attached to the cabaret through the cabaret kitchen. All the other rooms of the private quarters were locked. The case is proceeding.
