INVERCARGILL STOCK EXCHANGE YESTERDAY’S CALL-OVER There was an active market among shares of industrial companies at yesterday morning’s call-over on the Invercargill Stock Exchange. Quotations were as follows:— Government Debentures

THE WOOL MARKET STRONG COMPETITION AT LONDON LONDON, March 4. At the wool sales 7669 bales were offered, including 5496 from New Zealand, and 7211 were sold. There was a good selection and strong competition, the offering being sold well at prices from par to 5 per cent, dearer. New Zealand greasy halfbred, “Augl,” brought a top price of 21d and an average of 17*,ad. ’’ The Bradford tops market is’ firm and tending against buyers. Yarns are also dearer.

GOVERNMENT LIFE ‘ OFFICES RECORD YEAR’S OPERATIONS The new ‘business written by the Government Life Insurance Department for the year ended December 31, 1936, totalled £2,863,186. This figure establishes a new record for the department, and represents an increase of 42 per cent over the previous record year, 1935, when £2,005,128 worth of new business was 'secured.
