A KNITTED CAP

A knitted cap is suitable for skiing, motoring, hiking etc. The one shown here is for a young girl. If you want to make one for a child, cast on four stitches less. Material: Double knitting wool, or some other coarse four-ply yarn. Directions: The helmet is knitted in respectively double moss stitch and stocking-stitch: Ist row: 1 plain 1 purl to end of row. 2nd row: Knit plain on plain stitch and purl on purl stitch. 3rd row: Ktiit purl on plain stitch and plain on purl stitch. These three rows form the pattern. Stocking-stitch: 1 row plain and 1 row purl. See the diagram. The piece a-b is knitted as follows: Cast on 34 stitches and knit in pattern. Finish off with 3 rows stocking-stitch and cast off. Sew the pieces of the cap together. Crochet a row of double crochet round the edge. Crochet or knit a chin strap, attach one end to the ear flap and, fasten it with a loop and button at the other.
