ITALIAN SAVAGERY CONFIRMED
ROME’S DEFIANT DENIAL LONDON, March 3. Official quarters confirm the severity of the Italian reprisals at Addis Ababa, except the report of 6000 dead, which is over-estimated, though it is clear the “civilizing” mission was carried out comprehensively. Fifteen bombs of an inferior type were thrown, and several high officers not mentioned by the Italians were wounded. Many natives who were British subjects, were arrested, but were released before the massacre commenced.
“It is nobody’s business except Italy’s,” was the terse comment made by an Italian Government spokesman on the Abyssinian massacres. “Other Governments do not give information about the suppression of colonial revolt. We won’t either. The reports are exaggerated.”
