INVERCARGILL T.C.

FIELDS FOR TODAY GOOD RACING PROMISED The annual meeting of the Invercargill Trotting Club will open today and will Be continued tomorrow. The club has received an excellent list of acceptances and there should be some fine racing. The track is in good order, but not conducive to fast times being registered. The win and place system of betting will be in operation. The acceptances are as follows: — 12.45 p.m. MAIDEN HANDICAP, £llO. Class 3.43. One mile and a-half.

The Maiden Handicap has drawn a field of 16. Prince Charles is a smart pacer, but has been racing unluckily. His turn cannot be far away. Ghandi showed speed at Gore, while Aqua Bond at her only start suffered a narrow defeat at Wairio. Direct Bell has shown promising form and so has Drumbunnif. E. Todd’s bracket will be fancied, but the best backed may be Prince Charles Aqua Bond Direct Bell 1.25 p.m. MONOWAI HANDICAP, £llO. Class 3.49. One mile and a-half.

The Monowai Handicap is for unhoppled trotters. Winnow comes from R. Townley’s stable and on this account will have a following. Edwin Bingen has speed and so has Blue Logan. Swift Guy is well bred and Appomatox may do best of the others. The best backed may be Winnow Appomatox Blue Logan 2.5 pan. THOMSON HANDICAP, £l4O. Class 4.53. Two miles.

Fourteen have accepted for the Thomson Handicap. The coupled Seaward de Oro and Mountain Lad are likely to be a strong fancy. Frisco Silk does not seem to be racing right, but College Boy’s form at Gore was very good. Overproof stays well and so does Erin’s Chief. Nell Grattan is a smart pacer and the fancies may be J. Walsh’s bracket College Boy Nell Grattan

2.45 p.m. INVERCARGILL CUP HANDICAP. £250. Class 4.47. Two miles.

The twelve acceptors for the Invercargill Trotting Cup should provide a keen race. Tawny is speedy, but has not been running on o.ver two miles. Blue Spark has to be taken on trust at the barrier, but Gold Salute appears to be fulfilling his earlier promise. Moko Child has a large following and so have Belle Grattan, Harold Guy and the coupled Night Voyage and Leitrim. Marsceres is a smart son of Man o’ War, who is assured of support.' The best backed may be P. Crecgan’s bracket Gold Salute Belle Grattan

3.25 p.m. CRESCENT HANDICAP, £135. Class 3.39. One mile and a-half.

The Crescent Handicap is another mile and a-half event. Happy King appears to be improved, while Grand Meteor went a fine race from the back mark at Gore. Coherto will most likely be first fancy, but Vinola, Capri, Jean Dewey and Direct Thorpe may all trouble him. It should be a good betting race and the fancies may be

Coherto Direct Thorpe Vinola

4.5 p.m. TRAVIS MEMORIAL HANDICAP, £llO. Class 3.46. One mile and a-half

The unhoppled trotters are on the scene again in the Travis Memorial. Winnow will again be fancied and the coupled Black Peter and Blue Blood, the latter a good trotter, will be supported. Appomatox raced well at the Christmas meetings and the favourites may come from those mentioned, with most support for Winnow Blue Blood Appomatox

4.45 p.m.

HANDICAP (Saddle), £llO. Class 3.5. One mile and a-quarter.

The Takitimu Handicap is in saddle. Budge and Vice Regal will no doubt touch a short price, and they go well under these conditions Lady Ita can go fast and so can Capricorn. Dolores Silk has shown her best form in the south in saddle and the best backed may be Budge-Vice Regal bracket Dolores Silk Bonnie Brydone 5.20 p.m.

MEMBERS’ HANDICAP, £l4O. Class 2.58. One mile and a-quarter.

Some speedy pacers are engaged in the Members’ Handicap. Suncup has not raced for some time, but can go fast. Worthy Claire has a good deal of speed, while Waipahi is well known to Southlanders after his display at Winton in December. Roan Duke, Harold Wrack and Belle Grattan are all capable and the best backed may be

Waipahi Roan Duke Harold Wrack
