NOT CHANGED
‘ROAD” TO REMAIN A “STREET” A REQUEST DECLINED The petition by ratepayers of Dalrymple street asking that the name “Dalrymple street” be altered back to “Dalrymple road,” which was received at the last meeting of the council and referred to the Works Committee, did not meet with a favourable recommendation from the committee. At the council meeting last night it was decided that no action be taken. When the report of the Works Committee making no recommendation in the matter was read. Cr F. J. McLauchlan said that the name Dalrymple road had been known for some 50 or 60 years by that name. The change of the name was of no benefit to the council and only offended and annoyed families who had lived in the road for many years. Cr G. E. T. Dorman said that the name was already changed in telephone and residential directories. Cr H. Ritchie said that much as the council did not like refusing the request, if the previous decision to change the name were rescinded, there would be petitions from the residents of every road that was recently changed to a street.
