Mr Peter Woodnorth, of the Public Trust Office, has been transferred to Timaru. Mr R. Pollok, who has been in Wellington for the past two months, returned to Invercargill by the midday express yesterday. Sir Arthur Richards, Governor-desig-nate of Fiji, was a passenger by the Awatea, which left Sydney yesterday for Auckland—Press Association cable. Mr H. Davies, the Invercargill manager of the Flour Section of the Wheat Committee, has received notice of his appointment as manager of the Dunedin branch. Messrs A. Thomas (Dunedin), W. Webster (Christchurch), A. Haynes (Christchurch), P. Lowe (Wellington) and R. Gibbons (Wellington) are among the guests at the Grand Hotel. Messrs J. McCulloch (Christchurch), C. M. Dailey (Christchurch), A. H. Muirson (Wellington), G. H. Davis (Wellington), C. V. Lister (Christchurch), D. Cartie (Wellington) and Carnegy Gardner (Clifden) are among the guests at the Club Hotel. Mr R. Dean, who for the past eight years has been employed as a driver for the H and H motor services, resigned this week and was presented by the other drivers with a dinner set. The presentation was made by Mr W. J. Officer, who complimented Mr Dean on his excellent record. Sir Francis Frazer, chairman of the Executive Committee of Agriculture, was in Christchurch on Thursday. The committee will visit dairy factories in Otago and Southland to arrange boundaries and consider the general rationalization of the industry in those districts. Mr W. Thomas, governor of Rotary for New Zealand, is expected to arrive in Invercargill by the express this evening. He will probably visit the Eglinton Valley during the week-end. On Monday he will attend the Gore Rotary Club’s luncheon and on Tuesday will be present at the Invercargill Rotary Club’s luncheon. Mr E. J. Ellery, of Invercargill, who travelled in" the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner lonic on her first voyage nearly 34 years ago, has decided to revisit England in the old ship. He booked a passage by the lonic, which left Wellington early yesterday morning on the Homeward passage of her seventy-ninth and last voyage. Mr N. R. McKenzie, of Taranaki, a former senior inspector of schools, who is touring New Zealand engaged on research work on the system of school inspection, is at present visiting Invercargill. He is the author of "The Gael Fares Forth,” a book published recently by Whitcombe and Tombs, Ltd., dealing with the early history of New Zealand.
