Calcium solutions given by the mouth will not prevent milk fever.
At this year’s Smithfield Show (England), to be held at Islington from December 7 to 11, all sheep must be exhibited rmcoloured and unoiled. Though there were some instances of losses of stock following the rains and flooded rivers in the second week of October, it was on the West Coast that the losses were really serious. A farmer of Rotokuhu is reported to have lost half his herd of cattle, while in the Karamea district several farmers suffered losses of 70 pigs, 50 lambs, and 12 dairy cattle, respectively.
