MISS BATTEN
Visit To Be Paid To Queenstown (United Press Association.) Greymouth, November 12. Looking remarkably fit and well, Miss Jean Batten arrived at Greymouth this afternoon. An engagement at Wellington on November 27 necessitated her departure from Waiho. She left by rail car for Christchurch this evening and is to arrive at Ashburton to-night and Queenstown to-morrow. She will remain there for two days before resuming her official tour. Miss Batten stopped to inspect the Rimu dredge and the Hokitika aerodrome. She was accorded a civic reception at Greymouth, nearly 2000 being present. The Mayor (Mr W. E. Meldrum) welcomed Miss Batten on her first visit to the West Coast. Interviewed. Miss Batten said that she had benefited greatly from her rest at the glaciers, where she qualified for an “A licence” in horse-riding. She promised to return in January or February by plane for a visit to the West Coast. Miss Batten said that the Hokitika aerodrome was better than many she saw on her trip from England to Australia,
