STUDENTS TIED IN BEDS

Left In View Of Public (United Press Association.) Christchurch, October 21. Securely tied to beds taken into Rolleston Avenue and left there for more than two hours before police intervention set them free, two Canterbury College students played, leading roles in a “rag” last Sunday morning. Early in the morning the two victims were roughly roused from their sleep by a number of students. Each wag wrapped firmly in a sheet and blanket and then bound round and round with yards of rope. Helpless, they were placed m natural positions on their respective beds, neatly covered over, tucked in, and then removed to the avenue. They could not move and much less could they cry out, for they had been gagged. They made their public debut just after nine o’clock on a site just in front of the Rolleston Statue, in full view of pedestrian and other traffic on the avenue. Early passers-by commented on the eccentricities of students who wished to sleep in the open air, but apart from that there was nothing unusual about the appearance of the “sleepers.” By 11.30, however, the game was up. A constable arrived and delighted the watching students by trying to rouse the trussed up students by shaking them. Then he whisked off the covering blankets and found why they did not move. It is understood that no further action will be taken by the police. According to a statement by an officer they regard the affair as trivial and just a piece of student nonsense.
