White, Browns, has returned home from a holiday in Gore. Mrs A. Forde and Misses P. and S. Forde, Browns, spent the week-end in Winton. Miss Leone Lockerbie, Limehills, spent the week-end with Miss Ailsa Frisby, Browns. Mrs F. Wilkes, Invercargill spent last week-end with her daughter, Mrs R. Proctor, Browns. Miss Chapman, Fourth street, leaves to-morrow morning for Wellington, en route to Hastings. Mrs Denniston Cuthbertson, Duke street, returns from a brief visit to Dunedin this evening. Mrs A. Edwards and her small son, of Otautau, have returned home after spending a holiday at Browns. Mrs Williams, of Auckland, and Dr and Mrs Cyril Williams, Malay States, have been the guests of Mrs Henderson, Otapiri. Miss Barbara Cuthbertson, Duke street, has left to spend a holiday in the north. While in Wellington she will make her debut at a ball to be given by their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Galway, at Government House.

The fortnightly euchre tournament and dance in aid of the Queenstown hall funds was held in the Town Hall, Queenstown. The prizes for euchre were won by Mrs Lowen and Mr A. Braden. Consolation prizes were won by Mrs O. Stevenson and Mr R. Robins. The dance which followed was well attended. Music was played by the band and extras by Misses Mary Lynch and Violet Roycroft. The ball organized by the bachelors of Lower Shotover and the surrounding country districts was held on Friday evening in the public hall at Lower Shotover. R. Romans’s dance orchestra supplied the music. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Linda Edwards and Mr H. Little and the winners of the lucky spot dance were Mr and Mrs Percy Johnston. Mr P. Robins and Mr S. Brown were masters of ceremonies. On Saturday a pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mr and Mrs R. Peterson, Park street, Winton, when a number of young people journeyed from Invercargill to welcome Mr and Mrs Peterson home from their honeymoon. The time was spent in games and dancing. Those present included Mr and Mrs R. Peterson, Mr and Mrs Dickey, Mr and Mrs W. Stott; Misses D. McEwan, S. Morton, M. Sorenson, Mona Sorenson, J. Hannon, H. Hyndman and U. Nelson; Messrs C. Newton, M. Walker, B. Brown, H. Kelly, M. Burley, M. Young, A. Hughes, A. Low and T, Morrison.

Yesterday afternoon the members of the Garden Circle of the Southland Women’s Club held their first meeting for the season. A visit was paid to Mrs J. G. Macdonald’s attractive bush garden at Otatara, and the annual meeting was held. Later a visit was paid to Mrs Ritchie Crawford’s adjoining and equally attractive garden.
