ALLEGED UNLAWFUL USE OF INSTRUMENT

RETRIAL OF MARRIED WOMAN. (United Press Association.) Wellington, October 19. The retrial of Isabel Annie Aves, alias Craike, a married woman, of Hastings, on charges of unlawfully using an instrument with intent to procure a miscarriage on seven occasions between May 1935 and June 1936 at Hastings, began in the Supreme Court to-day. It is expected that the case will last for three days. Twenty-six witnesses are to be called for the Crown. At the first trial last August at Napier the jury failed to agree and a change of venue was granted for the retrial. Evidence was given this afternoon by witnesses, the publication of whose names was prohibited. The evidence, which was along the lines of the first trial, was from several women who said that accused had operated on them. The Crown case was incomplete when the Court adjourned until to-morrow morning.
